Amateur Fishermen’s Association QLD
The fishing club was founded on 10th May 1904 with 70 fishermen signing up as members. Thomas Welsby, a respected historian, held the post of Vice President for the first two years then President until 1921 and Patron from 1922 to 1941.

Bowling Club
A group of fishermen were the originators of the Bribie Bowls Club in 1927. Brisbane based bowlers as well as fishermen, were keen to establish a club at Bongaree.

Bribie Island Hotel
Bribie's first hotel opened in January 1940. In 1938 a liquor licence was issued with the Commission’s opinion that the establishment of an up-to-date hotel, offering special facilities for tourists, would result in considerable development in the tourist traffic.

Emily & Tom Wilkinson “Kyogle Boarding House”
The Kyogle Boarding House commenced in 1923 on South Esplanade with a Miss Petrie and Mrs Sapp as managers until Mrs Emily Wilkinson took over the role in 1926.

First Private Store
Alfred Hall and Arthur (Artie) Bestmann built the first private grocery shop on Bribie Island.

Post Offices
A Petition sent to the Deputy Postmaster-General in 1913 requested a twice-weekly mail service from Brisbane to Bribie.

Renton's Store
The Renton family opened their first store on South Esplanade in 1954 when Bribie Island was a relatively quiet village albeit with regular visitors and tourists through the holiday season.
